What Is Post-Event Polymer & Component Durability?

Extreme events change polymer properties through thermal degradation, radiation damage, mechanical shock, and chemical exposure. Each mechanism can degrade different properties at different rates.

Current practice is either to replace everything after an extreme event or assume everything survived—both costly or unsafe. K-Extreme provides a physics-based, per-component Survivability Index with documented confidence.

Damage is often invisible at the surface. A polymer seal may look intact after a fire while losing significant elongation-at-break and sealing force due to surface oxidation and DLO-accelerated core degradation. Visual inspection cannot detect this internal damage.
